SAPTA BADRI AND SAPTA PRAYAG
Amid the majestic silence of the Himalayas, where towering peaks rise towards the sky and mountain rivers flow through deep valleys, Uttarakhand preserves some of the most remarkable pilgrimage traditions of India. Among them, Sapta Badri and Sapta Prayag hold a special place.
This book is an account of my journeys through these Himalayan shrines and river confluences. It is not only about the places I visited, but also about the people, legends, temples, landscapes and experiences that have shaped these pilgrimage routes over centuries.
The Badri shrines are closely associated with Lord Vishnu and the ancient traditions of Vaishnavism, while the Prayags are celebrated for the confluence of sacred rivers. Each place has its own history, mythology, local traditions and character. Together, they offer a fascinating picture of Uttarakhand's religious and cultural heritage.
Travelling through these remote Himalayan regions is itself an experience. The roads can be difficult, the weather unpredictable and the terrain demanding. At the same time, the mountains, forests, rivers and changing landscapes create a journey that remains memorable long after one has returned home.
In these pages, I have tried to bring together the stories and traditions associated with the different shrines, the deities worshipped there, and the legends that have been passed down through generations. Alongside these, I have recorded my own observations and experiences from visiting these places.
The book also includes practical information for travellers—routes, accessibility and details that may help those who wish to undertake the journey themselves. I have tried to present not only what one may see at these destinations, but also something of the atmosphere and character of the roads that lead to them.
I have personally visited the sacred sites associated with Sapta Badri and Sapta Prayag several times. Each journey revealed something different—the changing face of the mountains, the rhythm of the rivers, the simplicity of remote settlements and the enduring traditions surrounding these ancient places.
My hope is that this book will give readers a glimpse of that journey and encourage them to discover these remarkable corners of the Himalayas for themselves.

ON THE PATH TO PANCH KEDAR
A pilgrimage to Panch Kedar is no longer as difficult as it once was. With improved roads, accommodation and communication facilities, the journey has become more accessible. Even senior citizens can undertake this pilgrimage, provided they are physically fit and prepared for the demands of the Himalayan terrain.
I have often noticed that people who frequently feel unwell while staying at home sometimes experience a remarkable change when they come to the mountains. The fresh Himalayan air, the open landscape and the rhythm of mountain life can bring a renewed sense of energy and wellbeing.
Today, although facilities are not available everywhere, many parts of the Panch Kedar route have homestays, hotels, dharamshalas, guesthouses and mobile connectivity. These developments have made the journey considerably more convenient for pilgrims and travellers. Yet the physical facilities are only one aspect of the pilgrimage. The journey still requires determination, patience and a genuine desire to reach these remote shrines.
According to Hindu tradition, Lord Shiva is present at each of the five Kedars. These sacred shrines are therefore regarded as places of Shiva's presence and worship.
The five Kedars are Kedarnath, Madhyamaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath and Kalpeshwar. Each has its own setting, traditions, legends and character. Together they form one of the most distinctive pilgrimage circuits of the Garhwal Himalayas.
Every year, thousands of pilgrims and travellers undertake this demanding journey to seek the darshan and blessings of Mahadev. For devotees, the physical hardships of the route are themselves part of the experience. Long walks, steep mountain trails, changing weather and high-altitude terrain test one's endurance, while the sight of ancient temples surrounded by the Himalayas often makes the effort worthwhile.
My own journeys through the Panch Kedar region have given me an opportunity to experience not only the five principal shrines but also many lesser-known and historically important pilgrimage sites along the way.
A journey to Panch Kedar naturally takes travellers through several ancient places of worship. I have therefore included these places in this book so that readers following the same routes can visit them as well.
Among them are Triyuginarayan, Gaurikund, Guptkashi, Ukhimath, Kotimaheshwari, Kalimath, Rakeshwari Mata of Ransi village, Gopeshwar, Makumath, Brahma Sarovar at Devariya Tal and Dhari Devi, among others.
Each of these places has its own deity, traditions, legends and local history. Some are well known to pilgrims, while others remain comparatively quiet and less familiar to visitors. I have tried to introduce the temples and the deities worshipped there, along with the traditions and stories associated with them.
The book also records the routes I travelled, the conditions of the pilgrimage paths and practical information on how these places can be reached. My intention is to make the account useful not only as a record of my own journeys but also as a companion for readers planning their own pilgrimage.
I have personally visited the Panch Kedar shrines and the associated pilgrimage centres several times, receiving darshan and prasad at these sacred places. The memories of these journeys have remained deeply etched in my mind—the mountain roads, the long walks, the sudden changes in weather, the ancient temples and the moments of quiet that one encounters along the way.
I have tried to describe the temple visits and pilgrimage routes as fully as possible, while bringing together the legends, traditions, travel experiences and practical details that I encountered during my journeys.
Panch Kedar is not merely a circuit of five temples. It is a journey through the mountains, through centuries of tradition, and ultimately through one's own capacity for endurance and devotion.
I hope that this book will help readers discover that journey for themselves—and that, when they set out for Panch Kedar, they too will return with memories that remain long after the mountain paths have disappeared from view.

PANCH KAILASH PARIKRAMA
This book is about a pilgrimage that has been deeply personal to me—the Panch Kailash Parikrama, a journey to five sacred Kailash peaks traditionally associated with Lord Shiva.
To visit all five Kailash sites within a single lifetime is certainly possible. The journey is demanding and, at times, physically challenging, but it is not beyond the reach of an ordinary traveller. One does not need to be a saint, ascetic or accomplished yogi to undertake it. What is required is determination, patience, discipline and, above all, a sincere desire to undertake the journey.
According to traditional belief, Lord Shiva resides at each of these sacred Kailash sites. For devotees, these mountains are therefore much more than geographical peaks. They are places where mythology, faith and the immense presence of the Himalayas come together.
The five Kailash sites traditionally associated with this pilgrimage are Kailash-Manasarovar in Tibet, Adi Kailash in Uttarakhand, Manimahesh Kailash in Himachal Pradesh, Kinner Kailash in Himachal Pradesh, and Shrikhand Mahadev Kailash in Himachal Pradesh.
Among them, Kailash-Manasarovar is the only one located outside India, in the Tibet Autonomous Region of present-day China. The other four lie in the Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Each Kailash has its own landscape, traditions, legends and challenges. Some journeys take one through remote mountain roads, some require long stretches of trekking, and others test the traveller with altitude, cold and difficult terrain. Yet the hardship is only one part of the experience.
For me, these journeys were also moments of discovery.
There were times when the mountains seemed endless and the road ahead uncertain. There were moments of physical exhaustion when every step demanded effort. And then, suddenly, a distant snow-covered peak would appear through the clouds, or a silent Himalayan valley would open before me. At such moments, the fatigue seemed to recede into the background.
Standing before these sacred mountains, I often found myself becoming silent.
There was little need for words. The vastness of the landscape itself seemed to create a different kind of stillness. At some places, I stood before the shrine with folded hands; at others, I simply looked at the mountain for a long time. Receiving darshan and prasad at these sacred sites remains among the most memorable experiences of my pilgrimages.
What I remember most is not only reaching the destination, but the journey itself—the long roads, the changing landscape, the uncertainty of mountain weather, the companionship of fellow pilgrims and those quiet moments when I was left alone with my thoughts.
Every Kailash revealed something different.
One journey brought a sense of awe, another demanded endurance; somewhere the silence of the mountains stayed with me, while elsewhere the devotion of fellow pilgrims left a lasting impression. Gradually, I began to feel that a pilgrimage is measured not only by the distance covered, but also by what one carries back from the journey.
Devotees believe that visiting these sacred sites brings spiritual fulfilment, inner peace and the blessings of Mahadev. I have approached these beliefs with reverence, while also recording the journeys and experiences as I encountered them.
In this book, I have tried to provide a clear account of where the five Kailash sites are located, how they can be reached, the routes involved and the practical difficulties a traveller may encounter. Alongside this information, I have included the legends, traditions and religious significance associated with each sacred mountain.
I have personally visited all five Kailash sites and had the opportunity to receive darshan and prasad at these sacred places. The memories of those journeys have remained with me long after I returned home.
This book is therefore not simply a travel guide or a collection of legends. It is also a record of my own pilgrimage—the roads I travelled, the mountains I saw, the moments of hardship and wonder, and the quiet experiences that are difficult to put into words.
I have made every effort to describe the routes and circumambulation of these sacred sites as fully as possible, so that the book may be useful to those planning their own journey.
The road to Kailash is not always easy.
But perhaps that is part of its meaning.
For when the destination is sacred, the difficult steps along the way also become part of the pilgrimage.

DAKAT PUJITO KALI KATHA
Kali Puja has been closely associated with the bandits of Bengal since many years ago. 150 to 200 years ago Kali Puja was not usually performed in any household. Kali was worshiped by Sadhaks, Tantrics, Kapalikas and robbers. Sadhaks, Tantrics, Kapalikas worshiped in secluded crematoriums or under a banyan tree at the edge of the village and robbers in the deep forest. To the general public, Goddess Kalika was a fearsome, raw goddess. So they were afraid to go in front of Maa Kali let alone worship. In Calcutta some women like Rani Rasmani and some zamindars of the time came forward to perform Kali Puja. Then it starts elsewhere.. In this book, some such Dakat Kali is also mentioned. The dacoits would even sacrifice human sacrifices to appease their worshiped goddess Kali. The scene is as grand as it is thrilling. All those things have been carefully presented in different chapters as possible.

KAPALIK, PAROKAYA O AISHORJYO LEELA
Kapalika, Parakaya and Aishwarya Leela
This book deals with sadhu-sannyasi-kapalika parakaya and unsatisfied soul and their sadhagati. In the background, sometimes we find South India, sometimes Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and Gyanganj. In order to know the truth of a historical event of 1600, the author of this book and his partner have been able to recover its exact cause and event after a lot of effort. The book begins with the fierce sadhana(pursuit) devotion of a Kapalika and his monastery. Gradually, in the progress of the incident, it is known that Kapalik is not alive, but dead. The dead unsatisfied soul of that Kapalik later started to experience such unusual events that anyone who visited the ruined monastery of that Kapalik encountered various unusual events. The writer has tried to uncover the true story by talking to some of those who have experienced this phenomenon. The author was assisted by Guptasadhak Devadoota, a resident of Varnavat in the Himalayas, to find out the real facts. He graciously told this writer what he had learned about the historical Kapalika from his Guru Varanavat resident Shankar Maharaj, who is currently circumambulating in Gyanganj.
Devadoota shared his experiences with this writer when he came to the plains even though he was in Varnavat, a high peak of the Himalayas. This book basically arranges events in three chapters. The first phase consists of the Kapalika and Abhayananda Maths. In the second phase there is Parakaya entry and at the end there is Aishwarya Leela. The context of the last 'Aishwarya Leela' is recent. This chapter is again divided into three parts. It contains the author's Aishwarya Leela philosophy, direct description of how to subdue the soul through Tantra, Mantra and Yajna.

KALI OF BENGAL IN MANY FORMS
After the publication of my book “Kali and Shakti Worship in West Bengal,” I began receiving requests from readers and people from different walks of life to write about the many lesser-known yet revered Kali temples scattered across the districts of West Bengal.
These were not necessarily famous temples known throughout the state. Many were small, old shrines, known primarily to the people of their locality, yet deeply respected as living centres of worship. Their forms of Kali were often distinctive, and each temple had its own history, traditions and stories of devotion.
It was then that I decided to undertake this work.
After nearly two years of travelling, collecting information and visiting temples, “Kali of Bengal in Many Forms” is now taking shape as a book.
I must say at the outset that this has been a demanding, expensive and time-consuming undertaking. Almost every district of West Bengal has Kali temples of different kinds. Among them are the famous Dakat Kali shrines traditionally associated with bandits, Shmashan Kali temples connected with cremation grounds and tantric traditions, as well as temples associated with Shakti Pithas.
Many other Kali temples, however, were established only within the last few decades. Since documenting every such shrine would have made the book unnecessarily large, I have mainly focused on Kali temples with a history of approximately fifty years or more and a continuing reputation for active worship and local devotion.
During the preparation of this book, I travelled extensively through different districts of West Bengal and visited many Kali shrines representing different forms and traditions of the Goddess. I collected the names of the present priests, traditional mantras and dhyana descriptions, details of how the Goddess is worshipped, local legends and accounts of each temple's significance.
I have also recorded practical information about how these temples can be reached, so that readers who wish to visit them can plan their journeys more easily.
My work, however, has not been limited to Kali temples alone.
Whenever time permitted, I travelled through villages across West Bengal, documenting images, symbols, rituals and places of worship associated with various folk and indigenous deities. I also tried to preserve the older traditions surrounding these forms of worship before they disappear from collective memory.
During these journeys, I carefully collected devotional songs and verses composed by poets of earlier generations in praise of various deities and have included them in this book wherever appropriate.
What I have written here is therefore not merely a catalogue of temples. It is also a record of the journeys I undertook, the people I met, the traditions I encountered and the impressions that remained with me while travelling through Bengal's many forms of Shakti worship.
The experiences I gathered while visiting these Kali temples have been presented here in simple language, with the hope that readers will be able to share something of what I saw and felt during those journeys.
“Kali of Bengal in Many Forms” is my humble attempt to bring some of Bengal's lesser-known sacred traditions before a wider readership.
If this book succeeds in satisfying even a part of the reader's curiosity about the diverse forms of Kali worship in Bengal, and if it encourages readers to discover these remarkable temples for themselves, I shall consider the effort worthwhile.
And if the book finds a place in the hearts of its readers, I shall regard all the years of travel, research and labour behind it as truly fulfilled.

The Great Mystery: An Expedition to Mandar Mountain
Holy men and remote, inaccessible mountains have fascinated human beings since ancient times. One represents the quest for spiritual truth, austerity and the unknown; the other evokes adventure, mystery and the overwhelming power of nature. When these two worlds meet in an ancient sacred landscape, the attraction becomes almost irresistible.
The setting of this book is Baranavat in the Himalayas. For many years, I had cherished a deep desire to climb the summit of Mandar Mountain, associated in ancient tradition with the Mahabharata and the Puranas, and to seek the darshan of Varuneshwar Shiva. Yet time, circumstances and the lack of a suitable companion repeatedly prevented me from fulfilling that wish. The thought of reaching the summit of Mandar seemed to remain constantly alive within me.
I had visited Baranavat once before and stayed at Shikhar Dham. During that journey, I had an unusual experience associated with the local tradition of the Pari—the mysterious beings spoken of in the folklore of the region. I even had the opportunity to meet a person who was said to belong to that lineage. That experience left a deep impression on me, and from then on I felt an even stronger desire to return to Shikhar Dham.
Then, quite unexpectedly, a phone call changed everything.
A man known to me as Debdut called and said, “I will be staying at Shikhar Dham from the 15th to the 28th. If you come during that period, I will request Nagababa and Murariji, the priests of Varuneshwar Shiva and Vimaleshwar Shiva, to make arrangements for your stay. If circumstances are favourable, you may even get an opportunity to climb Mandar Mountain and witness things that are rarely seen.”
His words rekindled a hope that had been quietly waiting inside me for years. His invitation kept returning to my thoughts. I knew, however, that travelling alone through such difficult terrain would not be easy. I therefore asked Shubhananda if he could accompany me. Unfortunately, he was preparing to travel to Europe for a sitar performance and could not join me. I could not find anyone else willing to undertake such a demanding journey.
And so, taking my mother's name and placing my faith in the Divine, I set out alone for Baranavat.
Over the years, I have come to feel that a pilgrimage has its own appointed time. Perhaps a sacred journey happens only when the time is right; perhaps encounters with certain saints and ascetics also take place only when one is meant to meet them.
This journey brought me into the company of several sadhus and exposed me to experiences that cannot always be easily explained through ordinary reasoning. For that reason, I have never felt that Baranavat should be judged in exactly the same way as other pilgrimage centres of India. I say this not from imagination, but from the perspective of my own years of travelling to sacred places and meeting spiritual practitioners across the country.
The ascent of the formidable Mandar Mountain, the journey to its heights, the unexpected experiences along the way, and the difficult descent—all of these have been recorded in this book as faithfully as I could. I have also tried to preserve my conversations with the sadhus, their way of life, their beliefs, and the mysterious traditions associated with this remote mountain. My intention has been to retain the depth of the experience without unnecessarily increasing the length of the book.
Of course, stories of ascetics, remote sacred places and mysterious experiences may not be accepted in the same way by everyone. Some may regard them as matters of faith, while others may seek rational or natural explanations. Both perspectives have existed side by side in Indian society for generations. I have no intention of turning these experiences into a debate. I have simply tried to record what I saw, what I heard and what I experienced, leaving the final judgement to the reader.
For those who are drawn to the lives of sadhus and ascetics, the mysteries of ancient pilgrimage sites, the echoes of the Puranas and the unexplained corners of the Himalayas, I offer this book with sincerity

YOGISHWAR RAM THAKUR
There are some lives that can be understood through history, and there are others that seem to belong to a world beyond the ordinary boundaries of time and experience.
India's spiritual heritage is filled with such extraordinary lives. For centuries, sages and yogis have walked away from the familiar paths of worldly existence in search of a deeper truth. Some disappeared into the solitude of the Himalayas; some returned to society at the command of their gurus; and some left behind stories of spiritual attainments and experiences that continue to intrigue devotees and seekers even today.
Yogishwar Ram Thakur was one such remarkable spiritual personality.
His life brings together several fascinating aspects of India's সাধনা tradition—intense spiritual practice, the guidance of a great guru, service to humanity, profound teachings and, above all, accounts of extraordinary experiences that have been preserved among his devotees.
Among the most remarkable traditions associated with Ram Thakur is the account that he travelled to Gyanganj with his guru in his physical body and later returned with him. Gyanganj itself occupies a mysterious place in the spiritual imagination of India, traditionally described as a hidden centre of advanced yogic practice in the Himalayas. Accounts of a living human being travelling there and returning are extremely rare, and the story associated with Ram Thakur therefore holds a special place in the traditions surrounding his life.
A similar tradition is associated with Yogirajadhiraj Sri Sri Vishuddhananda Paramahansa, popularly known as Gandha Baba. He too is said to have travelled to Gyanganj in his physical body and later returned in response to a call connected with the final stage of Bamdev's life.

THE AWAKENED KAAL BHAIRAV: A COMPLETE COMPENDIUM
Who is Kalabhairava? Where does He reside? How did He manifest in the cosmic order? What is the significance of worshipping Him, and what do devotees traditionally seek through His grace?
These are some of the central questions explored in this book.
Kalabhairava occupies a distinctive place within the vast traditions of Shaivism. Yet, despite His importance, there is often considerable confusion about the relationship between Shiva, His avatars, Bhairavas and Kalabhairava. This book attempts to examine these subjects in a clear and accessible manner.
Kalabhairava is a Bhairava, but not every Bhairava is Kalabhairava. The different forms of Bhairava have their own identities, iconography, colours, mantras, rituals and traditional offerings. Their forms and worship practices are not interchangeable. I have discussed these distinctions in detail so that readers can develop a clearer understanding of a subject that is often surrounded by misconceptions.
The book also explores the different traditions concerning the manifestations of Shiva and the various forms of Bhairava. How many avatars are traditionally described? How many forms of Bhairava are worshipped? What is the relationship between these manifestations and Shiva? These questions are examined through the religious traditions, legends and practices associated with them.
Another important part of the book is my journey to Kalabhairava temples across India.
I have tried to identify and document prominent temples that have a distinct place of worship and an established tradition associated with Kalabhairava. Wherever possible, I have personally travelled to these places, taken darshan and received prasad. My experiences from these journeys form an important part of this book.
For the convenience of readers and pilgrims, I have also included practical information about where these temples are located, how they can be reached and what one may encounter during the journey.
The pilgrimage is not limited to India. Kalabhairava is also worshipped in several places beyond India's borders, and I have included information about temples and traditions associated with Him in other countries as well.
In bringing all these subjects together, my aim has been to present Kalabhairava not merely as a deity of fierce appearance, but as a profound and many-layered presence within the Shaiva tradition—associated with time, protection, discipline, transformation and the destruction of fear.
This book brings together mythology, religious traditions, temple histories, worship practices, travel experiences and my own observations from visiting these sacred places.
I have tried to make the account informative as well as accessible, so that it may serve both readers who wish to understand Kalabhairava more deeply and pilgrims who wish to follow His sacred trail across India and beyond.
The Complete Kalabhairava is, therefore, both a study and a journey—a journey through the many forms, temples, traditions and stories surrounding one of the most powerful manifestations of Shiva.

The Miraculous Lives of India’s Sages
The history of Indian civilisation and spirituality is inseparably connected with the lives and teachings of Munis, Rishis, Maharshis and Devarshis. Through their austerities, spiritual disciplines and profound realisations, much of India's Vedic and Puranic thought took shape. The Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Ramayana, Mahabharata and Smriti literature are all deeply connected with this extraordinary lineage of sages.
In the Indian spiritual tradition, a Rishi is one who has perceived or realised Truth. The wisdom attained by these seers through meditation and spiritual discipline became the foundation of the Sanatana tradition and continued to influence Indian thought, religion, philosophy and social life across generations.
Yet the lives of these sages are not confined to philosophical teachings and sacred texts. Their stories are filled with austerities, divine visions, blessings and curses, extraordinary spiritual powers, yogic attainments and remarkable events. Some lived in royal courts, some in forests and hermitages, some in the solitude of the Himalayas, while others became deeply involved in the lives of kings and ordinary people. Through their lives, the spiritual heritage of India acquired an extraordinary richness.
The stories of these sages are scattered across the vast literature of India—Vedic texts, Upanishads, Puranas, epics and later sacred works. In many cases, different texts preserve different versions of the same story. Names and genealogies sometimes vary, while legends and popular traditions have often become interwoven with scriptural accounts. For the general reader, therefore, discovering and understanding this immense heritage is not always easy.
This book is an earnest attempt to undertake that journey.
Drawing upon a wide range of ancient texts, Puranic traditions and scriptural accounts, the book brings together the lives, spiritual practices, teachings and extraordinary stories associated with many of India's great sages.
Among them are Maharshi Kapila, Devarshi Narada, Vishwamitra, Ashtavakra, Rishyashringa, Chyavana, Vashishtha, Markandeya, Agastya, Bharata, Mandhata, Krishna Dvaipayana Vyasa, Durvasa and Vaivasvata Manu, along with many other remarkable figures from India's spiritual heritage. The book also gives special attention to several women sages, whose contributions to India's ancient spiritual tradition deserve to be remembered.
One of the distinctive aims of this work is to preserve the fascination of these ancient stories while also exploring their deeper spiritual significance. Scriptural accounts, Puranic narratives, pilgrimage traditions and popular beliefs are presented within their respective contexts, allowing the reader to approach these stories with both curiosity and understanding.
The desire to write about the extraordinary lives of India's sages had remained in my mind for many years. That thought quietly continued to grow within me until it found an opportunity to take shape through the encouragement of Smt. Aparna Basak, Publisher of Tathagata Prakashan.
I have tried to present subjects drawn from difficult and ancient sources in a simple, contemporary language so that readers of all ages—including younger readers—can discover and appreciate the fascinating world of India's Rishi tradition.
The Miraculous Lives of the Sages and Seers is therefore more than a collection of biographies. It is a journey through India's ancient world of spiritual discipline, wisdom, austerity, faith and wonder. From the pages of the scriptures to the lives of extraordinary human beings, from the mysteries of mythology to the depths of spiritual practice, this book seeks to bring alive a remarkable chapter of India's timeless heritage.
For readers who wish to discover who these sages were, how profound their spiritual practices could be, what extraordinary events surrounded their lives, and how deeply Indian civilisation owes its intellectual and spiritual heritage to them, this book offers an engaging journey into one of the most fascinating dimensions of India's ancient culture.

Shakti Pith Parikrama
Daksha performed a yagya with an intention to take revenge on Lord Shiva. Daksha was angry because his daughter Dakshayani also known as Sati had married the God Shiva against his wish. Daksha invited all the deities to the yagya except Lord Shiva and Sati. The fact that she was not invited did not deter Sati from attending the yagya. She expressed her desire to Shiva to attend the yagya, but He tried his best to dissuade her from going there. Shiva eventually relented and Sati went to the yagya.
But Sati, being an uninvited guest, was not given any respect at the yagya. Furthermore,Daksha insulted Shiva. Sati was unable to bear the insult of her husband from her father, so Sati invoked her yogic powers and immolated herself.
Enraged at the insult and the death of Sati, Shiva destroyed Daksha's sacrifice. Shiva picked up the remains of Sati's body, and performed the Tandava, the celestial dance of destruction, across all creation. The other Gods requestedVishnu to stop this destruction. Lord Vishnu used the Sudarshana Chakra, which cut through the corpse of Sati into 51 parts. The various parts of the body fell at several spots all through the Indian subcontinent and formed sites which are known as Shakti Peethas.
The book contains the complete travelling description of the piths among the 51 piths all through the Indian subcontinent.

Vaishnava Awakening at Ramkeli in the Stream of Sri Chaitanya’s Devotion
It was almost by chance that I travelled to Malda one afternoon in the month of Jyeshtha. My original plan was to visit the ancient ruins of Gaur and the famous Jahura Kali Temple. Fortunately, my visit coincided with the historic Ramkeli Festival. The following day was Jyeshtha Sankranti, marking the beginning of the seven-day festival. I therefore cancelled my earlier plans and set out for Ramkeli the next morning.
Ramkeli is about 50 kilometres from Malda town. Although buses are available, the roads become extremely crowded during the festival. I therefore hired a car. As we travelled through the countryside, I saw vast stretches of empty fields, scattered villages and patches of cultivated land. It was difficult to imagine that five hundred years ago this very region was part of a flourishing urban civilisation—the great city of Gaur, once the capital of Bengal.
Here, in the vicinity of Ramkeli, lived two distinguished officials of the Sultan's court—Sanatana Goswami and Rupa Goswami. They were highly placed and respected members of the royal administration. Yet the call of Sri Chaitanya would eventually transform their lives completely.
After about an hour and a half, we reached a point roughly a kilometre from the festival grounds. It was around eleven-thirty in the morning, and because of the enormous gathering, all vehicles were prohibited from entering the area around the temple associated with the memory of Sri Chaitanya. I had to continue on foot towards the Madanmohan Temple, where the deities of Madanmohan and Sri Radha are traditionally associated with Sanatana Goswami.
As I walked, I saw Vaishnava akharas on both sides of the road. Many had been erected only a couple of days earlier, yet they were already filled with devotional activity. From one came the chanting of the Tarak Brahma Nama; from another came Baul songs and songs of spiritual philosophy. The entire atmosphere was completely different from the bustle of the modern city. Everywhere there was the sound of Krishna's name.
I found myself completely absorbed in that spiritual atmosphere.
The roots of this living tradition go back nearly five hundred years, to the time when Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu came to Ramkeli. His presence changed the lives of Sanatana and Rupa Goswami forever. Leaving behind their positions, wealth and worldly honours, the two brothers embraced the life of Vaishnava devotion. Following Sri Chaitanya's instructions, they later went to Vrindavan, where they worked to rediscover the lost sacred sites associated with Krishna and composed important works that helped systematise Gaudiya Vaishnava philosophy and practice.
Their contribution was immense. Their writings, spiritual discipline and theological vision went on to influence Vaishnava life far beyond Bengal.
Standing in Ramkeli, I was reminded of my earlier journeys through the world of Vaishnavism. Years ago, I had written books such as “Following in the Footsteps of Sri Chaitanya,” “Kenduli Mela,” and “Pilgrimage to Srikshetra.” Yet my experience at Ramkeli awakened a fresh inspiration within me.
It was from that inspiration that this book was born.
The book takes the reader on a journey through Nabadwip, Ramkeli, Nilachala and Vrindavan, exploring the spiritual lives and contributions of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Sanatana Goswami, Rupa Goswami and Sri Jiva Goswami. It examines their influence on Vaishnava thought and practice and discusses some of their important literary works. Wherever Sanskrit verses are used, an effort has been made to explain them in simple Bengali so that their meaning can be appreciated by readers of all ages.
This is not merely a history of a religious tradition. It is also the story of a movement of devotion, spiritual practice and inner transformation—a movement that carried the language of devotion from royal courts to ordinary homes, from Sanskrit texts to congregational chanting, and from individual spiritual practice to a universal message of divine love.
The book is, in many ways, the continuation of a feeling that began for me while standing on the soil of Ramkeli. Where did the devotional stream of Sri Chaitanya begin? How did it take a systematic form through the spiritual and literary efforts of Sanatana, Rupa and Jiva Goswami? And how does that stream continue to flow in the hearts of people even today?
This book is my humble attempt to explore these questions through history, pilgrimage, literature and personal experience.
For readers interested in Sri Chaitanya, Vaishnava spirituality, the history of medieval Bengal, Gaur-Ramkeli and the broader Indian tradition of devotional spirituality, this book offers an opportunity to undertake a journey through a remarkable chapter of India's spiritual heritage.

Kashi-Baranashir sekali O ekal
*********
Giver of emancipation, joyfulness and giver of knowledge is Kashi. With these three qualities era after era it is shinning like a vermilion on the forehead and flowing with the holy water flow of Ashi and Varuna. It has added the flow of tapasya (medatation) of countless Brahmabid greatmen. Ourselves can be acquainted with Bramabids while visiting hundreds of temples. On both sides of northern flowing Ganga there are hundreds of ghats. These ghats are connected with diverse and colourful history. Along with it we find the sorrowful history of devastation of temples by the attack of outsiders/heathens. But Kashi is unerase able still today. Spiritual life and as a place of learning Kashi is still unparallel even today.
But now the name of kashi has been concentrated with a small railway station.. The present name of Kashi is Varanashi. To Common people Kashi means visiting Viswanath temple, one day travelling by boat, to see arati in the evening, shopping and eating rubbri, along with it we find conjested lanes, dirty city, traffic jam and suffocation. But to know Kashi we should learn by heart - should feel in our heart. The essence of Kashi is there in the dirty lanes. We should visit temples one after another walking through the conjested lanes amnd then we can feel the heart of Kashi. Because from time im- memorable countless sadhus have kept the dust of their feet here in Kashi for the coming generations. Kashi is the real embodiment of the heart of united India. To Bengali people Kashi has an everlasting appeal. The bengali writers have depicted Kashi in the Bengali literature - sometimes in travelogue and sometimes in religious books. There have been thousands of myths connected with this place. They are still alive. From hundreds of years the theists/religious people have endeared this place. There is no second edition of Kashi in terms of devotion and faith. The people who die here do not get rebirth. Keeping this belief thousands of people rush to Kashi from entire India. With the touch of modernity the accessibility of kashi has been changed. Kashi is no longer a pilgrimage but a tourist spot. Not only to Indians but also to the foreigners Kashi is a point of attraction in hindustan.
Here we find peaceful co- existence of imagination, history and devotion. Apart from this one may discover the holy ghats of Kashi mingled with mythology and history, story of Byaskashi, Ramgarh, Buddhist memorial Sarnath, cottage industry of Kashi, the learning centre of Kashi, hindu university of Kashi, the story of driven away widows from family. The glorious anecdotes of Kashi have been incorporated in this book. With this the places of visit of Kashi and historical importance have also been depicted in a story-telling manner.

TANTRA SAMRAJYO
Mayang, Kamakshya and Tarapith
Mayang, Kamakshya and Tarapith are the major religious “pithas” of Tantric studies. Of these three, Mayang is famous for Black magic and Tantricks of Maya-Vidya.
Mayang is situated 40 kms away from Guwahati city. Its said that the Tantrics of Mayang opposed the invasion of the Islamic rulers several times and this was done by the Tantrik Sadhus or the sages. The source of this mighty power was, mainly "Maaran (to kill an enemy) Uchatan (to remove enemies from life) "Bashikaran (to exert pressure and Control people) Stambhan (to immobile movements of an enemy) of other Tantrie rites.
So, whoever in this world believes in Spirituality, does extensive research on the theory and Practices of Tantra, surely visits this village of "Maya Vidya'. Not only India, but from different countries of the world, people come to Mayang to study the ancient Tantra and acquire a profound knowledge. But why this quest still remains a mystery;
Various myths and stories are on rounds in the villages of Mayang. Its a deep secret and full of mystery. Nature also plays a pivotal role to create an ambience of Black magic and witchcraft.
The lady Tantriks used to transform many outsiders to domestic animals. Not only this, the Tantriks could also vanish them. This book tells the story of numerous hidden Tantrik practices of Kamakhya, Mayang and Tarapith.
The stories in this book thoroughly present the author's delight to combine the varied scenic views and experiences almost like the beads of a garland.
